Shane Lowrencev has established an exceptional career as one of Australia’s most highly regarded bass soloist’s. His more notable credits include Handel’s Judas Maccabaeus, Messiah and La Resurrezione; Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Mozart’s Requiem, Mass in C Minor, Coronation Mass and Missa Brevis; Bach’s B Minor Mass, Sleepers Wake Cantata No.140, St John Passion, Magnificat, Christmas Oratorio and St Matthew Passion; Haydn’s Creation; and Schubert’s Missa Brevis.
Shane’s current body of work includes, in 2016, performing Escamillo (Carmen) and Schaunard (La bohème) for Opera Australia and Hunding in Die Walküre for the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. This year, 2017, engagements include as Scarpia (Tosca), Escamillo (Carmen) and Shaunard (La Boheme) for Opera Australia. He is also soloist with the Melbourne, Tasmanian and West Australian Symphony Orchestras.
Shane Lowrencev is Melbourne born. In 2000, graduated from the Melba Memorial Conservatorium with a Bachelor of Music. He furthered his studies at The Australian National Academy of Music and at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London.
Whilst an undergraduate at the Melba, Shane received the Robert Salzer Scholarship Award for Operatic Potential as well as a Victoria University Scholarship. In 2008, he won the Opera Awards, including the Youth Music Foundation of Australia Inc Award.
Shane has worked extensively with Opera Australia. His many roles for the national company include — Baron Scarpia in Tosca, title roles in Le nozze di Figaro and Don Giovanni, Escamillo in Carmen (later reprised in a new production), Schaunard in La bohème (also reprised) and principal bass roles in Bliss, La fanciulla de West and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Other acclaimed performances were as The King/ Aida, Polyphemus/ Acis and Galatea, Guglielmo/ Così fan tutte,Capellio/ I Capuleti e iMontecchi,Ferrando/ Il trovatore, Baron Douphol/ La traviata, Cascada/ The Merry Widow, Cook/ The Love For Three Oranges, Dick Deadeye/ HMS Pinafore, Usher/ Trial By Jury, Filiberto/ Il Signor Bruschino, Pistola/ Falstaff,Timur/ Turandot,Monterone/ Rigoletto, Betto di Signa/ Gianni Schicchi, Basilio/ Il barbiere di Siviglia, Melisso/ Alcina, Lodovico/ Otello, Nourabad/ The Pearlfishers. He has also found time to sing the role of Colline in La bohème for West Australian Opera.
Earlier roles for Opera Australia included Mozart’s Figaro, the 1st Nazarene in a new production of Salome, and Scarpia in Tosca; in addition to covering the role of Wotan/The Wanderer in Der Ring des Nibelungen.
Leading roles in new operas for Opera Australia included Prince Selim/ Il turco in Italia, Leporello /Don Giovanni and The Count / Le nozze di Figaro. Shane also recently performed the role of Brander in the Melbourne Symphony’s performances of Le damnation de Faust.
